The rising impact of generative AI in the education industry
Prediction
In 2024, there will be an uptick in educational users of generative AI on a regional scale, particularly in the AMER region.
Artificial intelligence (AI) holds the potential to unlock new horizons for educational users everywhere. The continuous advancement of AI tools brings an opportunity to look into the future and predict the decision making of users mainly related to market trends.
When evaluating trends in the educational system, it is imperative to explore generative AI software, notably AI chatbots. Unlike general virtual assistants, AI chatbots are designed to simulate human conversation, providing personalized responses and generating content based on the user's inputs.
Educational users of AI chatbot software are provided with efficient, innovative, and personalized learning experiences. Through gamified learning, students are eager to engage in interactive challenges and prompts.
Plus, the barrier to accessibility and support is broken down immediately for all institutions with education-driven chatbots.
Given that AI chatbots offer the convenience of being ready to answer questions and assist with work 24/7. The versatility of this software empowers education professionals on a global scale. This is evident from the G2's review data.
How does G2 data compare to reality?
For the last 12 months, education industry users have reviewed products in G2's AI Chatbots category, resulting in a category average of 4.4 stars. This shows education management users are generally satisfied with their preferred products.
Among these satisfied users, over 73% were from the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. This does not come as a surprise, as in September 2019, over 30% of APAC higher education institutes began their AI journey. It was predicted there’d be an increase in funding and implementation by 2021.
G2 users have verified this prediction about generative AI bringing innovation. One reviewer stated, “This has been incredibly handy when working on projects as a teaching assistant, focused around the topic of AI, using it to generate inspiration for ideas.”
This further supports my statement that AI chatbots provide creativity and refine the learning experience. But how can we take APAC user review data to predict how users from the Americas (AMER) will respond?
Simply put, the AMER region mirrors the APAC region, just a few years behind.
Only about 14% of educational users in the AMER region have left reviews in the AI chatbots category. Considering internet access, along with the digital skillset of workers, combined with the influence of governmental support, it will explain the staggeringly low number of users.
However, organizations such as UNESCO are working with EdTech partners and policymakers to tackle the barrier to internet access in countries that are delayed in the AI revolution.
Additionally, the Brazilian Ministry of Education has begun an initiative to assess the current digital skillset of their teachers to prepare them for the future.
Lastly, the U.S. Department of Education gained support from the Biden-Harris administration on ethically integrating generative AI into schools and higher education institutes.
Therefore, by addressing the challenges the AMER region currently faces. A shift in education users is sure to follow, resulting in more users actively using AI chatbots.
The future of generative AI in education
There is no doubt that AI will continue to take the world by storm in 2024. Integrations with automated solutions like digital learning platforms will continue to advance and improve day-to-day productivity, reshaping the educational market.
With an overworked and underfunded educational system, users will seek automated tools to consolidate classroom and curriculum management. This uptick in academic users from the AMER region will not result from just practicality but from institutions looking to implement innovation and creativity.
With its human-like mannerisms, AI chatbots help generate inspiration for ideas, bringing innovation back into the student learning environment.
