  • Game Localization Software: Game localization is the process of modifying a video, computer, or mobile game to adapt to the needs and preferences of players in a different geographic region.
  • Other IoT Software: This is where internet of things (IoT) solutions that don’t fit neatly into an existing software category are listed.
  • 3D Modeling Software: These software programs help design basic three-dimensional models of objects or characters, and often include supplemental features to enhance models with realistic details.
  • Underwriting & Rating Software: This software manages the underwriting process for insurance agencies. These solutions automate large portions of the underwriting process, reducing the need for underwriting support by employees.
  • Employee Communications Software: These solutions personalize and deliver internal top-down communications like newsletters, blogs, news feeds, and updates across a business.
  • DevOps Platforms: DevOps platforms handle continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) to automate various development tasks and define a successful delivery pipeline.
  • Passwordless Authentication Software: This is a type of multi-factor authentication (MFA) that eliminates a password as an authentication type.
  • Legal Practice Management Software: Legal practice management software is designed to assist legal professionals with day-to-day law firm operations. These products often include appointment scheduling, document storage and sharing, contact databases, and reporting. 
  • Enterprise Architecture Software: This software facilitates the analysis, design, and implementation of business technologies or strategies.

What piqued my interest in this week's list? Passwordless authentication

These days, securing user accounts with passwords alone won’t cut it, so I was pleased to see the increased interest in passwordless authentication solutions. I am an enthusiastic supporter of securing user accounts with multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Passwordless authentication can help secure users with poor password practices by eliminating the need for passwords entirely. For example, users who suffer from password fatigue because they refuse to properly employ a password manager to store and safeguard their unique and strong passwords, often reuse the same password for multiple accounts. This is bad for security. 

Passwordless authentication can help these users by eliminating the need for a password as an authentication factor (something a user knows) and replacing it instead with something they have (like a trusted mobile device or physical security key) or something they are (such as a biometric like a fingerprint or face print).

The sudden interest in passwordless authentication solutions on G2 may be related to a well-known passwordless authentication vendor Yubico, announcing the launch of their new YubiKey Bio Series, their first-ever biometric authentication solution.
