New Year New eLearning: A Comprehensive Overview of Corporate LMS in 2025

March 27, 2025

Upskilling and reskilling your workforce has never been more important. Companies that invest in continuous learning are seeing a direct impact on their bottom line. Perhaps that’s why there is a growing emphasis on corporate learning management systems

In fact, the US market for corporate LMS is projected to reach $40 billion by 2031, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 16%. With advancements in AI, automation, and personalized learning, today’s eLearning solutions are proving to be more effective than ever—reducing time to ROI and enhancing employee engagement.

Let’s deep dive into how eLearning solutions are achieving this, what reviewers have to say about the software, and what it all means for the future of online training.

How has eLearning changed since 2024?

Over the past year, the prevalence of AI and machine learning has drastically changed the face of corporate LMS. At one point, the prevalence of personalized learning paths and more immersive learning, such as augmented reality and virtual reality, gave rise to solutions like learning experience platforms (LXP).

Now, large language models (LLMs) are creating both competition and innovation within eLearning. LLMs offer quick answers and training in bite-sized models, potentially replacing microlearning. These systems also incorporate machine learning to provide more adaptive and personalized learning experiences.

The last challenge of eLearning is changing to work with the hybrid model. Ensuring that employees complete the mandatory training and providing supplemental information for those who struggle is necessary for success when trainers and trainees aren’t in the same room.

Growth of eLearning and better ROI

We analyzed data from the past 12 months across categories like Harassment Prevention Training, Corporate LMS, LXP, Microlearning Platforms, Training Management Systems, and eLearning Content Software. Compared to their overall performance in 2023, we found a few interesting things.

First, was the go-live time. This records an average of the months taken to fully implement the system upon signing a contract. It dropped from 3.3 in 2023 to 2.76 in the past year. This means businesses are seeing their systems up and running roughly six weeks faster. G2 reviews report an average adoption rate of 71% across all categories. This high rate is a strong indicator of the usability, relevance, and accessibility of LMS tools.

What’s more, the average time to achieve an ROI has improved dramatically. This was the most significant change. Users previously reported an average of 18.5 months to see an ROI, but that has now dropped to just under 10.1 months. Implementation rates have been unsteady over the last five years, so seeing a definitive increase in 2024 is significant.

Within less than a year, products are implemented and returning investment. A longer time to ROI could be attributed to the initial investment costs, user adoption challenges, or the complexity of integrating LMS platforms with existing organizational workflows.

While it’s hard to say what’s changing in this number, we posit that factors like vendors with faster onboarding processes, robust user support, and automation features (e.g., AI-powered tools) are likely to help shorten the ROI timeline.

Overall, reviewers are prioritizing products with faster onboarding, reduced training costs, and higher employee engagement.

Recurring themes in user reviews

To look deeper, we examined G2 reviews from corporate LMS from November 6th, 2024 to January 20th, 2025. Here were the most common standouts from a qualitative standpoint.

Common themes that G2 reviewers like:

  • Ease of use: Reviewers consistently praised the ease of use of corporate LMS platforms, with "easy to use" being the most frequently highlighted aspect (mentioned 273 times). Many users emphasized that these systems were intuitive, requiring minimal training for both administrators and end-users, which significantly improved adoption rates.
  • User support: Robust support provided by vendors was another stand-out, emerging as a strong positive theme with 133 mentions. Users valued quick and effective responses to their queries, often mentioning the availability of knowledgeable support teams who facilitated smooth onboarding and troubleshooting processes.
  • General usability: "Use" was another common theme, indicating satisfaction with functionality (217 mentions). It encompassed seamless navigation, accessible interfaces, and versatile functionalities that catered to diverse organizational needs.

Beyond these prominent themes, reviewers also mentioned several other aspects they liked. Customization options, integration capabilities with other tools, and the scalability of these platforms were among the additional features that garnered positive feedback. These likes demonstrate overall user satisfaction with tools that align well with organizational goals and deliver a user-friendly experience.

Common themes that G2 reviewers dislike:

  • Specific concerns raised by reviewers: General comments about things users "didn't like" (77 mentions). These were often tied to limitations in the system's design or user experience. Issues with system performance, occasional bugs, and challenges in integrating LMS platforms with other organizational tools surfaced as well. While these were less commonly cited than the top themes, they highlight areas where vendors could focus to further enhance user satisfaction and platform reliability.
  • Time-related issues: Time-related challenges, such as advanced reporting, customization options, or AI-driven insights, were also a significant concern (71 mentions). Reviewers pointed out that specific tasks, such as setting up modules or generating reports, were more time-consuming than expected.
  • Feature limitations: Gaps in feature offerings were frequently cited, with 55 mentions. Here, users expressed frustration over the absence of certain functionalities that could enhance their workflows.

The role of AI in LMS growth and its impact on NPS and ROI

AI features are already integrated in a wealth of ways. Learning experience platforms, in particular, are known for features like customized learning paths, recommendations driven, and advanced ways of tracking learner progress. However, a new wave of automated features is transforming eLearning.

One major development is AI-created content. Whether setting up templates or creating coursework from scratch, machine learning is helping trainers create new content. Fully automated chatbots answer FAQs and can provide additional resources on the fly with smart module recommendations. While automated reporting isn’t necessarily new, it allows administrators to see which content performs better or worse and makes underperforming pieces more engaging.

This also relates to accessibility. Automated caption creation helps users who need speech-to-text capabilities, including the hearing impaired and neurodivergent learners. AI language translations allow users who speak other languages to access the same content.

Ultimately, AI can assist in raising the ROI by making learning more accessible to a wider audience. Personalized learning leads to improved employee engagement and knowledge retention. The time savings on AI save on efficiency, leading to better automated training workflows. Predictive insights also enable proactive upskilling strategies, leading to better ROI and a happier staff.

Corporate LMS and the future

We’ve examined a lot of data that shows how the ROI on Corporate LMS and other eLearning software is an exciting opportunity. With advancements in AI, new features, and a growing interest in online learning, there are more opportunities to take advantage and upskill and reskill any workforce. Usability was the most notable feature reviewers were excited to see, which makes sense given the way that new technology has been implemented all the back to the invention of the LXP system, using AI recommendations to drive learning.

Since 2020, the jump from onsite to hybrid work has revolutionized every portion of the office whether that’s making it easier to use talent from overseas or connect effectively across cross-functional departments. So, where do we jump next? The answer: cyberspace.

Cutting-edge technology in the academic LMS world has already started using VR and AR learning. Why simply teach about a location when you could go there? The applications for the professional world are endless. Job simulators and pre-site training programs already make effective use of virtual space while bridging the physical divide between trainers and trainees. Though this training is currently niche and somewhat cost-prohibitive, generative AI and better implementation could drive this cost down making it a more functional option for multiple workplaces.

Learning of the future takes place everywhere, not bound by the location of the employee, employer, or physical reality. Will eLearning and corporate LMS jump on board or be left behind? Only time will tell.

Learn how productivity paranoia and productivity theater poison the workplace (and its antidote).
